UM MUID Entrepreneurship Students Meet With Industry Leaders In Nashville

Oct 24th 2014 was a game changer for a group of 20 UM MUID students.

The group left for Nashville at 6:30AM and returned after midnight.

The day was loaded with meetings with music industry leaders who represent all facets of the music industry, Publishing, Performing Rights, Management, Law, Music Production, Record Labels, etc.

Here is who they met with:

David Wykoff has been practicing music business and intellectual property law in Nashville, Tennessee since 1990. His practice includes negotiation and transactional matters, litigation, business entity formation and general music business advising.

His past and current clients include platinum-selling country and rock artists, record producers, Rock & Roll Hall of Fame members, Rhythm & Blues Foundation Pioneer Award recipients, ground-breaking “alternative rock” acts, country and CCMsongwriters, musicians, singers and singer/songwriters in al most every genre of music — many of whom are Grammy winners. The majority of the recording artists and record producers that he current represents operate outside of the traditional major label system. He also represents several management companies and record labels.

Before and while attending Boston College Law School in the late 1980s, he wrote for The Daily Hampshire Gazette in Northampton, Massachusetts, Rolling Stone magazine, The Boston Globe and many others. He was a contributing writer to Billboard Magazine from 1985 until 1990. In the first half of the 1980s, he was the managing editor for Boston Rock magazine and then for Music/Video Retailer, a trade publication for record, tape and videotape stores in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts.

2PM “Major” Bob Doyle, Garth Brooks Longtime Manager and owner of Major Bob Music.

Bob Doyle is owner and President of Major Bob Music Inc., a well-known publishing and production entity, and Bob Doyle & Associates, a successful artist management firm. The long time manager of Garth Brooks, also manages John & Jacob and Brett Kissel (Warner Bros. Canada). As a publisher, Doyle’s company is credited with forty-four ASCAP publisher awards, six BMI Million Performance Songs, and SESAC Song of the Year “The Fool” (Lee Ann Womack). Chart hits include “If Tomorrow Never Comes” (Garth Brooks) , “American Honey” (Lady Antebellum), “Fast Cars and Freedom” (Rascal Flatts),  “There Goes My Life” (Kenny Chesney), “Commitment” (Lee Ann Rimes), “Strange” (Reba McEntire), “I’ve Got A Feeling (Billy Currington), “Our Time Now” (Plain White T’s), “Fly Over States” (Jason Aldean), and “DONE.” (The Band Perry). Doyle also co-wrote the #1 song “Good Ride Cowboy” (Garth Brooks). His current songwriter roster includes Garth Brooks, Larry Bastian, Cary Barlowe, Brett Kissel, JP Williams, John & Jacob, Telemitry (Jesse Frasure), and Karyn Rochelle. He is the former Director of Membership Relations at the ASCAP Nashville office. Prior to his ASCAP tenure, Doyle served as Assistant Director of A&R at Warner Bros. Records. He is retired as a pilot and Lt. Col. with the Tennessee Air National Guard, having served in Desert Storm and Bosnia.



Foster is President/CEO of the newly formed Iconic Entertainment Group, serving all aspects of the entertainment industry including artist management, music, television, film, artist development and strategic partnerships.  Clients include Grammy-winning artist LeAnn Rimes and breakout singer-songwriter Levi Hummon.  Previously, Foster ran the Red Light Management office – working with a roster that includes ALABAMA, Dierks Bentley, Luke Bryan, Faith Hill, Tim McGraw, and The Tammy Wynette Estate.  Additionally, he produced the American Country Awards (FOX-TV) for the past four years.  Foster has also worked at Universal South (General Manager), Capitol Records, and Arista Records in Nashville.  He is Governor and Trustee for the Nashville Chapter of NARAS, and currently the co-chair of the National A&N Committee.
